Executive Board

President

Joel Schiffman ‘81

Joel Schiffman played Hooker for the Bruins from 1977 to 1982. His rugby career included representing Los Angeles County, playing for the Southern California Griffins and being selected for the Pacific Coast Grizzlies. He also represented the United States at the 1989 Maccabiah Games and played for Santa Monica Rugby Club and the Gentleman of Aspen.

As President of the UCLA Rugby Alumni Association, Joel leads efforts to engage alumni, support fundraising, and strengthen the future of UCLA Rugby. Professionally, he serves in leadership roles with the Money Management Institute, BidMoni, Inc., and Instinct Digital.

Vice President

Russ Ortiz ‘88

Russ played both 15s and 7s for UCLA Rugby before earning selection to the U.S. Eagles national team. He is a member of the UCLA Rugby Hall of Fame and was a co-founder and the first president of the UCLA Rugby Alumni Association.

Professionally, Russ is an executive with more than 30 years of experience leading growth, strategy, and operations for companies ranging from startups to global brands. A former CPA and Senior Consultant with Price Waterhouse, he also held executive leadership roles at Nike and Oakley before co-founding Shine by S.H.O. and Ortiz Interiors.

Josh Rebholz ‘04

After more than 20 years working in intercollegiate athletics fundraising, Josh Rebholz brings extensive experience in development and donor engagement to the UCLA Rugby program. Josh assists Coach Bennett with fundraising efforts in support of UCLA Rugby student-athletes, helping strengthen the resources available to the program and build lasting connections with alumni, families, and supporters. His experience in collegiate athletics continues to be a valuable asset as UCLA Rugby works to expand its support network and provide an outstanding experience for its student-athletes.

Jack Pargetter ‘26

Jack played lock for UCLA and served as team captain during his time with the program, providing leadership both on and off the field. His commitment to the team and competitive presence made him an important part of the UCLA Rugby program throughout his playing career. Jack graduated from UCLA with a Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics and is now pursuing a career in the investment management industry. He remains connected to the UCLA Rugby community and continues to support the program following his graduation.

Ross Klein ‘24

Ross Klein played lock for UCLA during his 4 years with the program. Ross’ contributions went far beyond his time on the field. His unwavering commitment to the program was a huge reason for the amazing shift in culture & pursuit of excellence for the playing group. Ross ended his time as one of the most capped players in recent history and since his graduation, was recognized by Coach Bennett with a named annual award in his honor. Ross now leads career and networking opportunities for current players & recent graduates.

Nico DiMatteo ‘26

Nico DiMatteo played scrumhalf for UCLA during his four years with the program and served as Club President, helping lead the team both on and off the field. His contributions extended beyond match day, as he worked to strengthen the connection between the playing group, alumni, and broader UCLA Rugby community. Since graduating, Nico has continued his involvement with the program as Director of Communications, helping lead alumni engagement and communications efforts. He now lives in New York City, where he works in consulting for KPMG.

Darren Maloney ‘92

Darren Maloney played prop and hooker for the Bruins from ’87 – ’92, under Coaches Storer, Spinella, Howard and Young, and served as head coach of UCLA from ‘94 – ’97. He heads the History & Culture sub-committee.

Ron Wollard ‘80

Ron Wollard was a two-sport athlete at UCLA, playing football from 1975–1979 and rugby from 1975–1980. A prop and second row, Ron was also a member of UCLA’s 1976 Rose Bowl team. Following his time at UCLA, he continued his rugby career with Santa Monica Rugby Club, playing for nearly two decades from 1980–1998. Ron now lives in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Seth Barrett - SMU

Seth Barrett leads parent engagement for the UCLA Men’s Rugby team, helping strengthen connections among current families and the broader UCLA Rugby community. As the father of current player Bobby Barrett, Seth brings a valuable parent perspective to the program and helps support communication, involvement, and engagement among UCLA Rugby families.
